Red State Governor says Doge is in line with GOP’s “financial sanity”

Exclusive: Governors across the country are off Washington, D.C. this week for the National Association of Governors’ Winter Meeting. Among them, R-Miss, who said the government’s Department of Efficiency has renewed the optimism of Republican governors in the federal government.

Reeves, who was elected governor of Mississippi in 2019 and re-elected in 2023, told Fox News Digital in an exclusive interview with the Republican Governors Association.

“There is no doubt that Republican governors are leading the country with financial responsibility and frankly lead the country in financial sanity. Part of that, as governors, we will balance our homeland budgets. Because government efficiency, with the support of President Trump by Elon Musk and his team, gives us a big reason for optimism: waste, fraud, abuse. Spend it for it,” Reeves said.

The second general governor says that most Americans appreciate the audit of Doji, with Republicans spending US taxpayer dollars on “some of the crazy things that have been identified in the past few weeks.” He said he would not allow it.

“We believe that taxpayer money should be treated accurately in the way they handle their own money. We don’t intend to allow them to spend their money on things that make no sense. Taxpayers. “We should spend money on them and spend them on things like what’s discovered in the past few weeks,” added Reeves.

Reeves, meanwhile, cannot wrap his head around Democrats’ refusal to government efficiency.

“I’m really confused as to why Democrats don’t actually support these efforts,” Reeves said. “There was a time in America that every politician with reasonable stripes should try to make the government more efficient. We should ensure that government money is spent in the right way. ”

Reeves questioned who benefited from taxpayers’ misuse of dollars during President Joe Biden’s administration.

“The Democrats’ opposition to these audits is beyond my understanding. The reality is that they are fighting for waste, fraud and abuse in government. It’s like they’re saying that waste, fraud, It’s as if you want abuse. It drives you. The question is who benefits from the way the Biden administration has spent these dollars over the past four years.”

Democrats have called Doge’s continued layoffs and the surge in President Donald Trump’s executive order “a constitutional crisis.” Reeves said Trump was doing exactly what he did.

“When talking about their claims about the constitutional crisis, a formally elected president who controls the administrative division of the government is not a constitutional crisis. In fact, that’s exactly what an elected executive should do. Trump What exactly is the President doing, he was obliged to do when he was overwhelmingly elected in the November election. Today they decide that government efficiency is not what they want to support. I’m just continuing that path in the process,” Reeves said.

Reeves added that Trump’s return to the White House empowered the governor’s voice on both sides of the political aisle, portraying a stark contrast between President Joe Biden and President Trump.

“President Trump taking office is a huge plus not only for me and for the Republican governor, but for all governors in fact,” Reeves said. “The first thing I say about President Trump is that it’s completely different from what I saw during the Biden era, regardless of political views or politics. President Trump wants to respect and hear from the governor. Other CEOs do it in the US.

Reeves said unlike what he saw in the Biden administration, Trump truly appreciates all the governors’ opinions and has access to the president again is encouraging.

“Even some of those governors on the other side of the political aisle will certainly recognize that President Trump is our opinion. As we’re going down and visiting with the president, it’s It’s encouraging.”

Reeves said Trump’s return to Washington is based on Mississippi’s momentum in education, artificial intelligence and manufacturing.

“We want to work with President Trump to work harder for more manufacturing. That’s important to Mississippi’s economy. Many states across the country gave up manufacturing 20 years ago. Mississippi won’t give up on manufacturing. That’s why we have it ready for incredible economic growth and prosperity.
