R-Neb. Rep. Don Bacon of the group will not seek re-election next year, but he has kept the door open to the prospects of further public services and has expressed interest in his potential role as governor or president.
“The other day I was asked, ‘You say you’re interested in being an executive. Are you a governor or a president?” I’m going to go ‘Yes,'” Bacon told NBC News. “If I have the opportunity and I can make a difference, if I can make a unique difference, I would like to continue serving. I just don’t want to vote for two years.”
Bacon pointed out that he would not challenge current Nebraska Gov. Jim Piren, who took office in 2023, according to the outlet.
He also showed that serving as Secretary of Defense is an option.

Fox News Digital contacted Bacon’s office on Monday and said in a statement provided that the lawmakers “want to continue serving this great country, but not Congress after this semester is over.”

Bacon, who has been in the House since 2017, will serve the remainder of his current term.
“This job requires 14 hours a week, Saturdays, parades, various things. Do you want to do this for another two years on Sundays? I didn’t want to work at that intensity level.” “And my wife wanted me to go home. I go to DC four days a week. I now have the opportunity to go home seven days a week and within ten minutes of my home I have eight grandchildren.”

Replying to X’s post, declaring that anyone would not vote to serve as president, the lawmaker wrote, “Going over 329,000,000,000!”
