The video appears to be the city’s latest immigration enforcement work days after a federal agent at Home Defort on Wednesday, near downtown Los Angeles, ruled by a major court on the tactics used in the attack.
Details of operations at Wilshire Boulevard’s Home Improvement Store were not available immediately. The location is three blocks west of MacArthur Park, and the presence of federal agents was filled with protests last month.
A video shared by witnesses showed us that Border Patrol agents appear to detain people outside the store. The NewsChopper4 video showed several vendors installed at that location.
The NBCLA is contacting authorities for more information. Tactical equipment agents left the area northwest of downtown Los Angeles late Wednesday morning.
Other federal operations since early June have been carried out at other Home Depostores, car washes and various companies in Southern California. Last month, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed with NBC4 that federal agents arrested more than three dozen people during a June operation targeting multiple Home Depost stores in LA County. A total of 37 people were arrested by CBP agents at three different locations on June 30, according to a DHS spokesperson.
Tuesday’s operation comes days after the Ninth Circuit issued an award maintaining a temporary restraining order granted by a federal judge on how the federal government will enforce immigration in Southern California. Trump administration lawyers have filed the government case to a three-judge panel for their stay as they are pending appeals for a temporary restraining order from San Francisco’s 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.
The appeals court refused the motion on Friday.
The ruling affirms an order issued July 11 that granted a restraining order requested by immigration advocates to restrict federal immigration enforcement operations in Los Angeles and other parts of Southern California.
Recent immigration enforcement projects in Los Angeles and elsewhere in Southern California are part of President Trump’s campaign promises to implement a massive deportation plan. The administration highlights arrests that include undocumented individuals convicted of violent crimes. Those caught up in the nationwide attacks include asylum seekers, those who have continued visas and immigrants waiting for a day in immigration courts.
Until July 17th, almost 56,600 immigrants have been placed in ice custody since the start of President Trump’s second term, according to NBC News.
Approximately 29% of those in custody were criminally convicted. 24.7% had pending criminal charges. 46.8% were listed as “other immigrant violators.” And 11.9% were quickly tracked for deportation.
