In her new book, Butler: The Turn Story of the Nearly Assassination of Donald Trump and the Battle of America’s Heartland, veteran political reporter Salena Ziet, released just days before the first anniversary of Pennsylvania’s attempt to assassinate President Donald Trump, reveals one of the elements that mainstream media has missed in his rally coverage.

The Pennsylvania-based told Fox News Digital that when he first interviewed Trump during his 2016 run he realized how he interacted with “people behind the scenes, water bottles, catering, feathers, electricians, people who had events that weren’t seen.”

Jeet said he saw Trump communicate with American voters with credibility and curiosity he has never seen in many politicians.

“At that moment, I realized that he wasn’t a billionaire running to president. He was the one who saw people that weren’t normally seen in elected officials. In a very unique way.

Trump believes Butler’s survival at the rally has been attributed to “the hand of God”: authors and witnesses reveal a direct explanation

Flash to Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign.

“What I’m covering 2024 was the number of young people out there, the engagement, excitement, the first time I’m voting and really excited to be a part of “big than myself.”

Zito’s book brought readers back to July 13, 2024, with 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks fired multiple gunshots at Butler’s crowd, grazing Trump’s ears, wounding two people, and killing one rally attendee, Corey Corey Comperatore. She had planned to interview Trump at the Butler rally, so she was only a step away from him when the shot was fired.

But when Zito heard the shot, she had this inner voice to Fox News Digital saying, “I didn’t get off. You have work to keep doing it.” As a journalist, Zito quickly began to leave his historical moments to memory.

Through the campaign, Zito said he could feel a sense of community building at Trump’s rally. His supporters have varying degrees of support for the president, but at the Trump rally she said they were happy, patriotic and excited.

“Trump put them together by location and root and connective tissue. It was really, really missed by my profession, but it was so right in front of me everywhere I went to Pennsylvania.”

Deirdre Heavey is a political writer for Fox News Digital.
