Washington has power players in stock. president. White House official. Cabinet Secretary. Representative of the United States. Senator. A powerful aide. lobbyist. journalist.

But what about baseball players?

Democrats and Republicans will be held in Nut Park on Wednesday night, just a block from the Capitol for their annual Congressional game.

Reporter’s Notes: Legislators take them to the field in the strange sight of an annual Congressional Baseball Game

Since 1909, Democrats and Republicans have been trading mound visits on conference committees.

Parliamentary records on scorecards.

Rep. Roger Williams, R-Texas, is a former Atlanta Braves Farmhand. He goes out to practice diamonds almost every morning, lawmakers during sessions at 5:45.

“I’ve been working out since March 1st,” Williams said. “I think we’re as good as last year.”

However, he noted that spring rains are limited practice times. And injuries may plague the GOP team.

House Republican Congress vice president Blake Moore and R. Luta started at Centerfield last year for Republicans. Moore is one of the best athletes on either team. Moore won the High School Heisman Trophy in 1997. However, Moore injured a collar bone diving a few weeks ago to make a save as goalkeeper in a congressional soccer game.

Yes, there is also a council soccer game. And then there’s a flag football game. and a basketball game. Hockey game.

And do voters sometimes wonder why nothing can be achieved in Washington?

Under the dome and above the diamond

Anyway, Moore says his collarbone has been healed. Ironically, he can play golf. However, you cannot play baseball. And you can’t reach for the dish to clean up after dinner in the cupboard.

“It’s really well with my wife,” Moore said.

A penalty to play soccer?

“I fined him $500,” Williams said. I jokingly believe it.

R-Texas Rep. Jake Ellzey played the right field last year. He will move to Center Field on Wednesday night, replacing Moore. Rep. Marlin Stutzman, R-Ind. , Patrol right field for Republicans.

The Statzman returned to Congress this year after an eight-year hiatus. Stutzmann played in six games before, reaching .083. Stutzman was pitching to the GOP. However, his service from the bullpen is probably not necessary. After all, the statsman may not match other Hoosier state hallers like Tommy John and Don Larsen. On the mound, Stutzmann boasts a 0-2 record with a 14.44 ERA in the Congressional Contest.

That said, Williams has a potential newcomer who can throw.

“He’s my Ryne Duren,” said Williams of Harrigan.

For beginners, Duren was a burning All-star in the 1950s and 60s. It was mainly with the New York Yankees and the Cincinnati Reds. Duren was wearing a coke bottle glass. The line “Oh, you can see” between “Star Spangled Banner” made a little more sense for the opposing batsman when Duren was on the mound on a fastball.

Williams says Harrigan can bring it. But his control requires work.

Peter Edward Rose’s Tragedy

Rep. Linda Sanchez of D-Calif is in his third year as a Democratic skipper. She was the first woman to manage her team.

The woman first played the game in 1993. Former Congressman Ileana Ross Letinen, R-Fla. Along with former Senator Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.) and current Senator Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) have broken gender barriers. Both Lincoln and Cantwell played as members of the House. Sanchez appears in 11 games and is one of the best women in a suit. She hit a .455 and went 5-11 after two walks.

Sanchez Bleeds Dodger Blue. She historically wears a Fernando Valenzuela jersey during management. Valenzuela was one of the most iconic Dodgers of all time, calling the 1981 Cy Young Award “Fernando Mania” and seized Southern California. Valenzuela passed away last fall.

However, Sanchez once pulled the “California” Angels. It’s now the Los Angeles Angels. Sanchez switched allegiance from Haros to the Dodgers after the Angels let Nolan Ryan escape to the Houston Astros in late 1979.

How would Sanchez feel if she was a New York Mets fan when they traded Ryan for an angel?

Trump’s spending bill is headed for the Senate, where Republicans plan strategic adjustments to key provisions

Sanchez’s success at the plate has not pursued her into a Democrat dugout. Republicans won the final four contests, including two managed by Sanchez. Republicans slammed Democrats 31-11 last year. The GOP broke the Democrats 16-6 in 2023. There were no games in 2020 due to the pandemic. As a result, the Democrats have not won since 2019. Republicans hold a 38-23 advantage in the “modern” era of the game. They began a parliamentary match in 1909. However, the second half of D-Texas’ Sam Rayburn stopped the game because it got too violent.

The 1956 match saw a legendary clash at home plate. The late Charles Curtis (R-Mo.) was part of the GOP. Steamroll Curtis from Olin “Tiger” Teague, D-Texas and Plate. Teague is buried at Arlington National Cemetery. However, Teague buried Curtis at home with the game. Orderlies carried Curtis from the old Griffith Stadium Field on the stretcher.

Lawmakers resumed the game in 1962.

With the party’s talent that bleeds mound talent in recent years, Sanchez may be supported by an influx of freshmen like Rep. John Mannion. – In this year’s showdown. (AP Photo/Craig Rattle)

Sanchez is supported by at least four new freshmen (rookies) at her club. Dave Min, D-Calif. , Derek Tran, D-Calif. , John Mannion, Dn.Y., and Johnny Olszewski, D-MD.

“Our main weakness hasn’t been that deep for our bullpen. And this year we have some freshmen that we can throw, so we hope that with those additions we can do better this year,” Sanchez said.

Expect Manion to work in peace.

Republican lawmakers oppose Musk’s “Bill the Bill” attack on Trump’s agenda

Like most major league clubs, Democrats need pitching.

“When Cedric Richmond was on the mound, we had a great run for a while,” said D-Calif, House Democrat Caucus Speaker.

Former Congressman Cedric Richmond, D-La. is one of the greatest players in the history of Congress’ baseball games. He pitched in college. He threw more than 80 mph to fellow MPs in Stymie. Richmond boasted an 8-0 record and a smallest record of 2.64 ERA.

However, Richmond left Congress in 2021 to work for former President Biden. The Democrats have not been formidable since then.

Heading into Wednesday’s contest, Sanchez teased that his goal with Republicans in the game was to “cry.”

“But we’re going to get together and do good things for the area,” Sanchez added, noting the $2 million that the Game will raise for children’s charity in the DC area.

But she admits, “There’s always talk of trash.”

House Republicans are asking for cancellations and spending as Elon Musk and conservatives demand deeper budget cuts

So the Democrats try to escape from their poor performance. The Democrats didn’t win under Sanchez. But because the minority leader Hakeem Jeffries (DN.Y. took over in 2023, they’re ah, they’re ah, they’re ah, they’re ah, they’re ah, they’re ah, they’re ah, they’re ah, they’re ah.

“I hope the Democratic comeback will start in 2025 with a Congressional baseball game,” Jeffries said last week.

But the Brooklyn Democrats said the same two years ago.

“I think this is a year of a massive, democratic comeback,” Jeffries said in June 2023.

So I asked Jeffries in the Capitol corridor late last week.

“Do you really find you’re a minority leader that Republicans beat Democrats with a 47-1 total score?” I asked you really.

“I think my record as an active member of the Congressional baseball game team was 9-1,” Jeffries replied.

But is that for Jeffries? Or Cedric Richmond?

Statistics are the most important thing in baseball. Whether you’re scoring at home. Or use the Congressional Budget Office. Jeffries is batting 1-6 in nine games for the Democratic team. It suits an average of .167. Well below the Mendoza line. However, he swiped seven bases.

And this year, Democrats are once again trying to steal victory against talented Republican clubs.
