Conservative energy leaders are celebrating President Donald Trump’s latest efforts to unleash America’s drilling.
The Department of the Interior announced Monday’s proposal to withdraw President Joe Biden’s restrictions on oil and gas development in Alaska’s National Oil Reserve.
Interior Secretary Doug Burgham said it ignored the 1976 Navy Oil Reserves Production Act, limiting energy development on more than half of the 23 million acres on Alaska’s north slope.
“The National Petroleum Reserve (NPR), created by Congress to ensure America’s energy supply, supports 13 million acres of responsible oil development,” Frank Russey, president of Energy and Climate Truth, said in a statement shared with Fox News Digital.

“President Biden’s drilling ban in Alaska undermined energy security, increased dependence on foreign oil, increased gasoline prices, and promoted inflation through increased transportation costs,” Lasee added. “By resuming drilling, economic growth and energy independence are ahead of climate ideology in a place that most Americans have rarely visited before.”

In line with Trump’s executive order, the proposed revisions returned to regulations introduced prior to May 7, 2024, and Lasee called it a “admired” prioritization of “American energy needs and economic well-being.”
“President Biden should not have stopped congressional-sanctioned oil drilling in Alaska,” said Sterling Burnett of the Arthur B. Robinson Center on Climate and Environmental Policy at the Heartland Institute. “Trump should be praised for both putting American energy needs and our economic well-being first, and for following the law by opening up these areas for production.”
According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the 2024 regulations clause lacks “base for the Navy Oil Reserved Production Act,” which undermines the BLM’s council obligation to oversee timely leases in the region.

“President Trump’s move to restore drilling in Alaska’s Arctic region is a bold and necessary step to regaining American energy independence,” said Jason Isaac, CEO of the American Energy Institute.
Trump vowed to unleash American energy on the campaign trail in 2024, signing an executive order to rescind Biden-era climate policy on the first day of his second term.
“By turning back the 13 million acres of Biden’s disastrous limits, Trump will drive our economy, cut energy costs and unlock the wealth of resources that will enhance national security. This is a victory for American workers, consumers and allies who rely on stable and affordable energy,” Isaac added.
Steve Milloy, a senior policy fellow at The Energy & Environment Legal Institute, has been called “better news from the Trump administration in rewinding Biden’s war on fossil fuels.”

Trump and his Republican allies are looking to roll back some of Biden’s Green Energy Initiatives through a budget settlement on Trump’s “big, beautiful bill.”
“The National Petroleum Reserve (NPR) was created more than 100 years ago to provide oil supply to America’s energy security. Energy security can be achieved by responsibly developing oil reserves, including the vast shale oil deposits in the heart of the US Gulf.

“The continued drilling ban by the Biden administration will likely depend heavily on the increase in transportation costs, and on the foreign supply (and) of gasoline prices and inflationary spiral oil across all sectors of the US economy,” Whitestone added.
