The dog was a “long-term stay” animal that had been waiting for more than 100 days to be hired at a Riverside County shelter.
As shelters went through dire circumstances, the county decided to send them to Michigan in the hopes of finding a home forever.
“This life-saving flight will also help ensure that dogs staying in the shelter system are more likely to find permanent homes,” the department said.
The Bissell Pet Foundation has made it possible to fund cross-country trips.
In 2024 alone, more than 6,200 cats and dogs were moved from Riverside County Shelter to various parts of the county and Canada.
