During the repairs, two hikers spoke about the three-day rescue mission that followed in Riverside County, as well as the deathly experience and three-day rescue mission.
The airborne crew and volunteers on the ground pulled the Vedalin and Chris Ng from their sturdy snow depths for the first few days of March, rolling about 800 feet off the Ridgeline Trail above the Idyll Wild. Their rescue was caught up in video.
On Saturday, Lin and NG were able to tell KTLA’s Chris Wolfe how it happened.
“Unfortunately, we skated as we were following the trail,” Lynn explained. “In panic, we were trying to grab the others and get them back, but there was no good foot hold for that.
Lin said he was able to call 911 with that phone, despite the battery being almost dead.
“The first thing I remember was to wake up a bit and have a quick inventory of how badly I was ruined,” NG recounted his experience from his hospital bed.
LIN and NG’s injuries included fractured bones throughout his body, including his face, spine, hips and chest, and he also suffered from his feet and frostbite.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, the LA County Sheriff’s Office, the Sierra Madre Search and Rescue Team, and paramedics in Orange and San Diego were part of this incredible rescue effort.
