Among the activities at San Fernando Recreation Park and the Aquatic Center, the daily routines of athletic classes and basketball games were disbanded on Tuesday evening due to an unusual emergency.
Los Angeles Firefighters confirmed that it would take an hour and 15 minutes to save the woman from her predicament.
She was taken to hospital by paramedics in fair condition shortly after being pulled out around 8pm. It’s even more unusual. The same woman came back the next day and was arrested for trying to climb onto the same roof, officials said.
Firefighters said the woman is not affiliated with or does not do business with the recreation center. They said questions should be directed to San Fernando police about her residential status and why she climbed the rock-structured building.
The department’s call was not immediately returned.
Her identity is unknown, so it is unclear whether the woman was fined or arrested.
Julio Salcedo, director of recreation and community services in San Fernando, said the same woman was arrested again Wednesday morning for trying to climb onto the roof.
“We have staff here that we’ve worked for 20 or 25 years,” Salcedo said. “We were talking about how much you were here and how it didn’t have to do with it. There’s always something that will surprise you.”
The chimney was above the meeting hall of former Boy Scouts, which is currently used as custody for the public works department, according to Salcedo.
Salcedo said the woman’s timing was actually fortunate given that multiple people walking around the park hearing her screams and calling it emergency service.
“If it had happened a little late, our park would have been empty, like an hour later,” Salcedo said. “She could have been there all night.”
