In California, mashed potatoes took the top spot. The other states of Utah, Wyoming, Iowa and West Virginia agreed with California that mashed potatoes are the “best” Thanksgiving side dish.
However, all other states agreed that the filling/dressing was “the best”, making it an all-American favorite.
Last year, mashed potatoes were ranked number one nationwide, but this year they were replaced by stuffing and dressing.
According to Campbell’s, the top five Thanksgiving side dishes are:

The study also looked at Thanksgiving habits by generation, finding that 45% of Gen Z couldn’t get enough macaroni and cheese, compared to 59% of baby boomers who didn’t eat stuffing or dressing. Turns out I like it. About 32% of baby boomers also preferred mashed potatoes.
Overall, nearly 40% of Americans want to fill their plates with Thanksgiving sides, excluding turkey, according to the report.
