Fire danger is increasing as Santa Ana winds blow toward Southern California early in the week.
Weather conditions in the Southland region remained relatively calm over the weekend, but winds will return Monday and Tuesday, a welcome relief for firefighters battling the Eaton and Palisades fires.
“We can’t let our guard down as conditions change here this week, with drier skies, warmer temperatures outside and the return of Santa Ana winds that eliminates the threat of fires,” said NBC4 Meteorologist Shana Mendiola. He said this.
As the winds pick up, so does the humidity, which could reach single digits in some areas.
“Then the fire threat will return, which will happen this week,” Mendiola said.
A red flag warning is in effect from 10am on Monday to 10pm on Tuesday, with the strongest winds expected to arrive late into the night into Tuesday. Winds will be 25 to 40 mph in some areas, with gusts up to 65 to 80 mph.
The situation is expected to subside by Wednesday, but there is a looming possibility that the winds will pick up again on Thursday.
