Police are investigating after violent video showed severe abuse of dogs in Long Beach after it went viral.
The nonprofit, Animal Hope and Wellness, posted graphic surveillance footage on Instagram, said it was recorded around 5:36am on Monday outside 235 E. 12th Street.
“The man in this video is mercilessly abusing this poor puppy and needs to find it as soon as possible,” the caption reads. “What we can say is that the guy has a skateboard so other skaters in the area may be able to identify who this is.”
The footage shows a man on a skateboard lifting a medium-sized brown dog off the ground on a leash, pulling it over his shoulder, and swinging roundly on the ground.
When the dog is on the ground, the man continues dragging the dog before kicking it.

The man then grabs the dog’s leash again, lifts the animal upward towards his back, making the same movement as carrying the bag over his shoulder, and the abused dog hangs behind his back and comes out of the camera frame.
PETA announced that it will provide a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to the arrest of a man and to the dog’s location.
“The dogs rely on us to keep them safe, and this dog suffered from violent attacks that completely betray their trust. “This dog will be at risk as long as it stays in this abuser’s clutch. PETA encourages anyone who recognizes the man in this video to move forward quickly. It can save this dog’s life.”
The Long Beach Police Department said it is aware of the video and that the department is under investigation but did not say whether an arrest was made or whether the dog was found.
“Patrol officers responded to the area and received animal cruelty reports as the incident had not been previously reported to the department,” LBPD said in a X-post Monday afternoon. “Animal abuse is not acceptable and is not acceptable in our community.”
The department also said Long Beach Animal Care Services is actively investigating to ensure the welfare of the animals involved. To contact Animal Services, call 562-570-7387.
The LBPD recommends that anyone with information about the incident contact a non-emergency dispatch at 562-435-6711 with an investigation underway.
