A jewelry store in the San Fernando Valley was robbed as a burglar passed through an empty building next door to carve out safety.
The latest robbery occurred Monday at Afghan Lapis Jewelry on Ventura Boulevard, Encino, after the suspect entered an adjacent holiday building and smashed a wall.
The robber opened two safes inside the family business with a watt torch, removing alarms from the wall, the owner’s brother told NBC Los Angeles.
“Someone has worked hard for 43 years. Please build something and leave everything here for someone to come and take everything overnight,” Amin Nasiri said. “There have been a lot of break-in in the store, but this is the first time he’s lost everything 100%.”
Although employers have no estimates on the amount of stolen goods, families believe the losses are in hundreds of thousands.
Authorities have not confirmed whether the same group of people were behind the recent jewellery store invasion, but their tactics seem to be very similar.
Less than a week later, the Jewelry Store in Biddlesia, a family-run business in Glendale, was robbed when the burglar entered the roof and then torn the four safes.
Not too far in Simi Valley, five-star jewelry experienced similar devastation by robbers getting caught up in surveillance video, sneaking into a candy shop next door, drilling holes in the wall and stealing jewels from the safe. Small business owner Jonathan Youssef estimated he lost more than $2 million in Jews.
Also in April, Love Jewels in downtown LA was broken when a thief tunneled into a jewelry store using an abandoned theatre next door.
