The parents of a 1-year-old girl were charged Tuesday with murder and assault in the death of their daughter, who was found unresponsive and suffering from multiple injuries in a Rosemead home, authorities said.
Jonathan Salazar, 21, and Leslie Garcia, 20, are scheduled to be arraigned in a Pomona courtroom on Dec. 18 on charges of murder and child assault resulting in death, according to court records.
According to the criminal complaint, Garcia is also charged with one count each of assault on a comatose or paralyzed child and one count of child abuse under circumstances or conditions likely to cause serious injury or death. It is said that there is.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department announced that on Nov. 9, deputies responded to the 2600 block of Strathmore Avenue in reference to a report of an unconscious and not breathing infant.
The 1-year-old girl was immediately given life-saving treatment at the scene and taken to the hospital. Sheriff’s officials said medical personnel alerted police that the girl had suffered multiple unspecified injuries, and the LASD Special Victims Bureau and Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services conducted the investigation. .
One of the girl’s brothers was taken into protective custody, officials said.
The child’s mother was arrested on Nov. 12 and has remained incarcerated since then, according to jail records.
The girl was pronounced dead three days later at the hospital.
Salazar was arrested last Friday and has been in jail since then, according to jail records.
