Vroman’s bookstore in Pasadena will be holding a free live jazz concert on Saturday, August 2nd, as part of a summer concert series co-hosted by the Pasadena Conservatory. The event will be held from 5pm to 6pm and open to the public.
The performance introduces Pasadena Music Jazz faculty and friends with Pasadena Conservatory and friends, including saxophone Nicole McCabe, trumpet Aaron Janic, bassist Jonathan Richards, Keys Sam Hirsch and career career collaborations with Cannyball Adeley, Nancy Rollnes, Nunnbor Wilson and nancy fotzzeling, nancy fotzzed and fothinded drummer Roy McCurdy.
“This is a rare opportunity to hear jazz icons play in intimate, community settings,” the organizers said.
Local bookstores launch large summer sale amidst long-lasting community support
Founded in the 1890s by philanthropist Adam Clark Vorman, Vorman’s bookstore has long been a cultural hub in Pasadena. Originally funded through the sale of Vroman’s own collection of books, the store was born out of personal loss and a desire to enrich the community. In addition to its extensive inventory of books, the store features curated sections for gifts, stationery and jewelry, and is home to 1894, an in-store bar known for its literary-themed cocktails.
The bookstore has received many acclaim, including Publisher Weekly’s Bookstore of the Year and Best Bookstore in San Gabriel Valley, and has appeared in television and films, including Modern Family, 40-year-old Virgin, Parks & Recreation.
The August 2nd concert coincides with ongoing summer sales in stores, offering discounts in various departments.
