Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Friday that the US ambassador for South Africa is no longer welcome within the country, but he called him a “racial offering” politician who hates America and President Donald Trump after he said his commander was leading the world’s white supremacist movement.
On Thursday, South Africa’s Ambassador Embrahim Rathor addressed the Mabungubue Strategic Reflection Institute (Mistra) in Johannesburg, explaining Trump’s opposition to his country’s expropriation law and its anti-Israel stance.
He said that Trump’s making America great was a white supremacist response to US demographic changes.

“What Donald Trump is launching is an attack on existing people, those in power, by mobilizing supremacy over incumbents at home, and I think I’ve explained it overseas as well,” he said. “So, from that point of view, the supremacist attack on the incumbent sees it in the US domestic politics, the Magazine movement, the great American movement. It’s not the supremacist instinct, but very clear data showing the big demographic changes in the US, where US voters are expected to be 48% white.”

“The US ambassadors for South Africa are no longer welcome in our great country,” the secretary said. “Emrahim Rathor is a politician who baits a race who hates America and hates @potus. He is considered a persona non-grata because there’s nothing to argue with him.”
Trump has criticised South Africa for land expropriation laws that allow the government to seizure land without compensation. In February, Trump issued an executive order punishing South Africa.
“In shockingly and disregarding citizens’ rights, the Republic of South Africa recently enacted the Expropriation Act 13 of 2024, allowing the South African government to seize the agricultural property of minority Africans without compensation,” the order states.

“As long as South Africa continues to carry out these unfair and immoral practices that harm our country, it is a US policy. (a) The US shall not provide assistance or support to South Africa.
The order also targeted South Africa’s position against Israel. Israel was accused by an international court of committing genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, reinvigorating relations with Iran and developing commercial, military and nuclear arrangements.
“The United States cannot support the South African government’s national violations committee or US foreign policy poses a national security threat.

The South African government claims not only Africans, but white people from all backgrounds who own about 70% of South Africa’s land. The government says the expropriation law is only used to take necessary land for public purposes from people of all colours when the owner refuses to sell.
