Secretary of State Marco Rubio defended Vice President JD Vance’s speech in Germany, who prefers European censorship.

Rubio clashed with CBS host Margaret Brennan on “Face the Nation” after suggesting that freedom of speech was “weaponized” to bring about the Holocaust in Nazi Germany.

Brennan highlighted Vance’s speech to the Munich Security Conference in Germany last week. This criticised European allies for adopting a “Soviet”-style approach to censorship.

“What has all of this achieved other than frustrating our allies?” asked Brennan.

Hegseth says he and Vance are “on the same page” despite the VP’s remarks about Ukraine’s US military

“Why are we frustrated by our allies or someone expressing their freedom of speech and opinions? After all, we are democratic,” Rubio said. “The Munich Security Conference is primarily a democratic conference, and one of the values we cherish is our ability to speak freely and offer your opinions. I agree with him, but I am not eager to do so about it. I think I’m actually making his point to make it up.”

Vance warns that the US will use sanctions, military action if Putin does not agree to the Ukrainian peace deal: Report

“Well, he was standing in a country where free speech was weaponized to do genocide,” replied Brennan. “He met with the head of a political party who has some historical connections between the far-right views and extreme groups. The context was changing that tone, and you know that. It’s there.”

“Well, I have to disagree with you. No – I have to disagree with you,” Rubio said as the pair discussed each other. “Free speech was not used to implement genocide. Genocide was genocide, authoritarian, because it hated Jews, hated minorities, and had a list of Jews who mostly disliked Jews. It was carried out by the Nazi regime.”

He said, “Nazi Germany had no freedom of speech. There was nothing. There was no opposition to Nazi Germany. They were the only party that ruled the country.

Rubio continues to repeat Vance’s point that European leaders should be able to continue working with the US and other like-minded countries despite the criticism of European leaders. I did.
