Secretary of State Marco Rubio dismissed speculation that he could become the Republican presidential candidate for 2028, and instead threw his support behind Vice President J.D. Vance.
“I think JD Vance will be a great candidate if he decides to do it,” Rubio said in an interview with Lara Trump, airing on the Fox News channel on Saturday.
Rubio also described Vance as one of his “close friends in politics.”

He went on to praise Vance’s performance as Vice President in the “My Views with Lala Trump” segment, revealing that he is pleased with President Donald Trump’s current role in the cabinet.
“I want to do this job as long as the president allows,” Rubio added.

Trump appointed Rubio as the country’s top diplomat shortly after defeating then-President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election. Rubio, a former Republican senator representing Florida, was one of the first confirmed cases in Trump’s cabinet.
“I believe if I can be here throughout this presidency, I can get things done at the pace I’ve been doing for the past six months.
“And I’ll be happy with it as the pinnacle of my career,” he added.
