Hundreds of residents of the Studio City area of San Fernando Valley are working on technology to spread information and surveillance amid the surge in home robberies in the area.
One of the residents at the front of the neighborhood watch, one of the residents identified as mats only due to security concerns was a recent victim of a burglar, and his surveillance cameras filmed a trio of masked suspects jumping on his fence and his property.
“We have hundreds of eyes on the street,” he explained. “When I see things, I’ll let people know quickly and then tell LAPD.”
Luckily, the thief of his house was stopped by his child’s nanny, who was watching them from inside the house.
Matt was able to notify 350 attentive neighbors via the WhatsApp text chain.
“They wear these black hoodies and cover their faces. They’re almost like gymnasts,” he explained. “They’re jumping over the fence like a pommel horse. They still jumped over even though they had spikes above my gate.”
Neighbor Patty Eskander told KTLA’s Rachel Menithov that there had been at least two robbers within a very small radius last week.
“Everyone was watching,” she said. “That’s odd. All of the neighbors were out and roaming around and they didn’t bother.”
Eskander believes that the black Mercedes, whose license plate is covered in towels, is her response to at least one “hot prowl” on the street.

The vehicle looks surprisingly similar to the black four-door Mercedes involved in the Woodland Hills robbery that unfolded in the afternoon. There, two men carried safety from their home in the 4800 block of Canoga Avenue and were placed in the trunk of a vehicle covered in license plates.
The concerns of Studio City and Woodland Hills residents reflect the Encino people who had the rash of the home of American Idol executive Robin Kay and musician husband Thomas DeLuka.

The couple was found days after the invasion suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, including the head.
The 22-year-old man reportedly called 911 himself from inside the couple’s home was arrested in connection with those murders.
City Councilman Adrin Nazarian, who represents LA’s second district, has issued a statement to KTLA about the rise in robbery, including the studio.
“I have warning words for robbers and potential robbers out there. You might think you’ll run away from it, but you’re not. You’re going to get caught. There’s an eye everywhere.”
For Eskander, the fear of a thief targeting her home is very real.
“My family will be with me at least temporarily, but when they move out and I’m alone with the security dog, that’s going to be a problem,” she said.
Officials at the LA Police Department said they could not provide a detailed explanation of the enforcement efforts, but other areas have experienced similar situations and there have been many “observations” in the neighborhood.
