Several suspected theft men across the valley of San Fernando and San Gabriel were under surveillance by undercover agents allegedly breaking into their Woodland Hills home on Tuesday, and were later allegedly led police in a fast pursuit of South LA before crashing and trying to escape on foot.
The alleged burglars were believed to be members of several robbers “crews” under investigation by local law enforcement – being monitored by LA Impact Task Force detectives who work in vehicles without plain crosses or marks to try to infringe crimes.
The invasion occurred in the Woodland Hills area near Tuft High School, just south of Ventura Boulevard. A video from NewsChopper4 showed that a glass door or window facing the backyard of the gated house was destroyed.
The detectives drove the group away from the area and called on a unified LAPD officer to stop traffic.
One car driver used by a thief – a black Tesla Sedan – was spipped and chased into South Los Angeles, where the car crashed into a parked car, stopped near the wall and 98th Avenue around 11am
Two men fled Tesla, where they were wrecked, and at least one of them was taken into custody by officers.
Two more men got out of the car before the pursuit began, and a related search was being carried out at the Lynnwood location, law enforcement sources said.
The LA Impact team was brought in following a series of well-known home robberies by Encino and Sherman Oaks, including the July murders of American Idol music director Robin Kay and her husband Thomas Delca during the break-in.
Three days after the bodies of Kaye and Deluca were found to be the homeowner of Encino, they injured a broken person in their home around 5:30am, reportedly armed with clover. Prowler was found to be 14 years old, arrested after his mother called the paramedics and reported that he was shot.
Law enforcement officials say they believe a small number of robbery teams, or crew, are in charge of many recent intrusions. Sometimes remote cameras are used to blind potential targets, WiFi jammers and other tools, and bet on tools to defeat security systems.
The group being monitored Tuesday is suspected of carrying out recent home robberies in West Valley, Arcadia, Glendale and other communities, sources said.
A summary of LAPD crime data shows that the number of robberies across the city has fallen by about 3% this year, falling by more than 8% in the West Valley area in July.
Because LAPD no longer provides public access to the crime data behind published summaries, it is difficult to know whether reported robberies occurred in homes or businesses.
LA Impact is an interagency task force consisting of a variety of criminal and officers from LA County, State and federal law enforcement agencies, including LAPD, led by special agents from the California Department of Justice.
The same unit was tasked with investigating and investigating several other robber crews who were operating in the San Fernando Valley last summer, resulting in numerous arrests.
