Schedule A bill to permanently classify fentanyl-related substances so that I pass the Senate

The Senate passed a bipartisan bill on Friday. This permanently classifies fentanyl-related substances, also known as fentanyl analogs, as Schedule I substances under the Controlled Substances Act.

The suspension fentanyl law was passed with overwhelming support, winning 84 Senate votes, with 16 opposing it. The bill aims to close the loopholes exploited by drug traffickers who smuggle substances with chemical compositions similar to fentanyl, but differs sufficiently to avoid legal penalties.

“What is this bill doing – “OK, it’s illegal to bring in fentanyl.” But some people trying to bring in fentanyl are aware that they are trying to get around the law to make it quite altered and become what they call analog,” said R-La, the bill sponsor and former physician. Sen. Bill Cassidy, of the lawmaker, told reporters Friday ahead of the bill’s passage.

“Oh, it’s not fentanyl. It’s not actually fentanyl, so you can’t crush me.” No, it still kills like fentanyl. Therefore, it is treated by fentanyl.

Democrats have tried to steal the passage of the bill by snatching candles, arguing that it is not enough to combat the entire fentanyl crisis, increasing mass incarceration and limiting research into these fentanyl analogs into a more restrictive regulatory category.

However, Republican sponsors of the bill have argued that it will reduce bureaucratic hurdles in researching fentanyl analogs, helping more scientists open the door to studying these new substances. The argument that it will be mass incarcerated has also been questioned by Stanford University drug policy experts and former White House office of Keith Humphreys, a former White House national drug management policy advisor.

The Stop Fentanyl Act does not provide a new, mandatory minimum judgment, but places it under the same judgment guidelines as fentanyl-related substances used in fentanyl itself.

During Friday’s report, some of the bill’s Republican sponsors ahead of the suspension law, Sen. James Lankford of R-Okla noted that the nature of the US drug crisis “is rapidly changing on the streets and needs Congress to respond.”

“This is a huge achievement, very frankly, that we can move this in the fight against fentanyl,” Lankford added.

Other potential measures to combat the fentanyl crisis, such as efforts to strengthen law enforcement’s drug blocking efforts and veterinarians’ laws chasing the drug xylazine, are among the additional efforts being considered at Capitol Hill as they are being added to fentanyl to make it more addictive.
