The top Senate Democrats are set to put the biggest pain for Senate Republicans to pass President Donald Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” before lawmakers even get the opportunity to debate the legislative giant.

In fact, Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer, DN.Y., will force clerks on the Senate floor to read the entire 940-page megaville of GOP. His move to drain as much time as possible occurs after Republicans vote for key procedural tests to open up debates over the law.

Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” faces Republican family feud as the Senate reveals the final text

Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer, DN.Y. spoke with Right, Right and Reporter after a Closed Door Party Meeting held in Capitol, Washington on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.

“I oppose Republicans moving forward on their big, ugly bills without reading them on the Senate floor,” Schumer said in X.

“So Democrats are forcing them to read it and finish it on the floor,” he said. “If that’s what you need to read it, we’ll be here all night.”

Certainly, staff were seen driving bills on the Senate floor in preparation for an overnight read.

Schumer’s movement is expected to take up to 15 hours, and is designed to allow Senate Democrats to parse countless provisions within large-scale legislative texts. Ultimately, it proves a smokescreen as Senate Republicans continue to march towards the final vote.

Once the bill is read, a 20-hour debate, evenly divided between Democrats and Republicans, begins, likely early Sunday morning. Democrats are expected to use the entire 10-hour chunk, while Republicans are expected to go far under their allotted time.

Then comes the “voting llamas” process, where lawmakers can provide an unlimited number of amendments to the bill.

Democrats once again try to extract as much pain as possible during the process, but Republicans, especially those with prolonged issues with major Medicaid and land sales regulations, continue to form, shape and shape the bill.

The last time a store clerk was forced to read the entire bill during the budget settlement process was in 2021, when Senate Democrats held a majority in the Senate.

At the time, R-Wis. Senator Ron Johnson of the United States demanded that he read the entire 600-page American Rescue Act aloud. Schumer, the leader of the Senate majority, later tried to attack President Joe Biden’s upper chamber, but opposed reading.
