With President Donald Trump’s former reality television show The Apprentice, streaming last month on Amazon Prime, politically keen viewers across the political spectrum praised Sen. Chuck Schumer, now one of the president’s biggest political detractors, as his fellow New Yorker.
In season 5, episode 8 of “Apprentice” in 2006, as typical in each episode, the contestants were given the challenge. During breakfast, Schumer painted similarities between his family and Trump, praising the president and trying to tell the contestants he always knew Trump as a young man.
“I was born in Brooklyn, the same place that Donald Trump’s family came,” Schumer recalled with the contestants during breakfast at the famous Hay Adams hotel in Washington, DC, saying, “My father and my grandfather were the builders of Brooklyn.”
“Oh!?” I was able to hear one contestant reply. “Really?” I asked another person.
“Yes!” Schumer responded to the room.

The show then cut to Schumer, who praised Trump as a business genius.

Despite Schumer’s apparent friendly sentiment towards the president in 2006, the Democrat New York Senator told Politico ahead of Trump’s first term in 2016.[Trump] Rather, Schumer described his relationship with Trump as a “casual acquaintance.”

Given Schumer’s intense hostility towards Trump today, Sen. Arik Nesbitt, the minority leader of Michigan’s GOP Senators, said in a post that highlighted a re-encouraging clip of Schumer’s scene on “apprenticeships,” “how things change…”.
But it’s not just Republicans enjoy Schumer’s expenses.
“When Schumer sells out our constitution and democracy, we have to see this clip of him suck on Trump in the apprentice episode,” said former Democrat Rhode Island Sen. Aaron Lejänberg. “What a world class slug.”
Shortly before taking office during his first term, Trump was asked by MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough and Mika Brezinski about whether he could get along well with Congressional Democratic leaders such as Schumer. “I’ve always been very good with Schumer. I was close to Schumer in many ways,” Trump said at the time.
But over time, Trump’s rhetoric against Schumer has become increasingly critical of the senators as the political heavyweight pair continues to fight over the political issues that dominate Washington every week.

Recently, Trump took a jab at Schumer’s lack of support for the Jewish community on October 7, 2023, amid the rise in anti-Semitism, particularly on university campuses, in the wake of Hamas’ attacks on innocent Israelis. Schumer is Jewish.

“Schumer is Palestinian, as far as I’m concerned,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office last month. “He became Palestinian. He was once Jewish. He is no longer Jewish.”
Trump’s comments from earlier this month reflect similar sentiments he conveyed about Schumer during his recent campaign for the presidency, calling him a “pride member of Hamas.”
In addition to Schumer, other well-known public figures praised the current president, but became his political enemy a few years later. In an interview with Oprah Winfrey in 1988, the celebrity talk show host seemed surprised at his “attractiveness” with American Donald Trump, and even described him as a very popular “folk hero.”

Meanwhile, according to media reports, Russell Simmons, who co-founded Def Jam Records’ Russell Simmons, had said great things about Trump before he called him “so nice”, called him “so nice”, and called him “so nice”.
