Police are searching for the suspected driver behind the hit and run that killed a pedestrian in South Los Angeles on Friday night.
LAPD said the victim, who was only identified as a man in his 60s, was crossing the streets of Wall Street and Manchester Avenue, around 10:10pm.
As pedestrians crossed Wall Street north, he was struck by a vehicle moving west along Manchester Avenue at an unknown speed.
“The vehicle continued without ceasing to identify itself or provide assistance as required by law,” LAPD said in the release.
Paramedics from the LA Fire Station arrived to help, but ultimately declared that the victim had died on the scene. His name is withheld on the next pending notice of the immediate family.
Details are limited and police said there were no explanations of available vehicles as of Saturday afternoon.
“A driver will remember that if they are involved in a collision, they will need to be safe, notify emergency services and stop immediately if they continue to stay on the scene to identify themselves,” LAPD said.
Additionally, rewards of up to $50,000 are available to community members who provide information that leads to criminal identification, arrest, conviction or resolution through civil compromise.
Anyone with information about this conflict will be asked to contact Sergeant Neel, South Traffic Division, at 323-421-2500.
