A search is underway for a diver who went missing at the Port of Long Beach Wednesday night.
According to the Long Beach Fire Department, a diver was reported missing around 9:45 p.m. According to reports, the suspect is a 28-year-old man.
Brian Fisk of the Long Beach Police Department said a group of about four men were freediving near Pier J on Harbor Scenic Drive near the Queen Mary.
Freediving is diving without ropes or air tanks. Divers typically wear wetsuits, masks, or goggles and fins.
Three divers went into the water, but only two returned. The men, all believed to be in their 20s, called 911.
Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to a request for additional assistance around 11:30 p.m.
Several search and rescue teams on boats are conducting searches, but water conditions are poor and visibility is poor.
Crews are searching in 30 to 40 feet of water where the water temperature is about 58 degrees.
