On Wednesday morning, 20 flower-covered Rose Parade floats were honored by the Pasadena Tournament of Roses.
The 2025 Rose Parade Float Award winners were judged in a variety of categories, including a sweepstakes prize for the most beautiful entry. Since 1924, the coveted award has been presented to the San Diego Zoo.
The Float score is based on creative design, floral craftsmanship, artistic merit, computerized animation, interpretation of theme, representation of flowers and color, and dramatic impact. Judges judged each float during a pre-New Year’s parade session on Colorado Boulevard.
The parade, which featured nearly 40 floats in total, displayed banners for each award winner. Some are sponsored by Southern California cities, while others are sponsored by companies and organizations such as UPS, Trader Joe’s, the San Diego Zoo, Pasadena Humane, Kiwanis International, and Kaiser Permanente. Universal Pictures also participated in a float celebrating “Wicked” named after the film’s star characters Glinda and Elphaba.
After the parade, the floats will be displayed at Float Fest at Sierra Madre and Washington Boulevard, where spectators will be able to see the toilets up close. Floatfest will be held on Wednesdays from 1:30 to 5 p.m. and Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Floatfest opens at 7 a.m. Thursday for seniors and people with disabilities.
