Malibu will begin construction of a new permanent skate park next month after the city council approved a $4.1 million contract for construction, the city announced Tuesday.

The 12,500-square-foot facility, scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2025, will feature a variety of skating elements that can provide skating for all skill levels, including stairs, rails, shelves, banks, flow bowls, quarter pipes, spine, expansions, and waterfalls.

City officials said it would be a high-quality recreational facility that nurtures active and healthy communities.

“This skatepark is more than just a recreational facility. It will be a gathering place that nurtures the community, promotes a healthy lifestyle and embraces Malibu’s deep skating culture,” Mayor Doug Stewart said.

City staff will present suggestions for possible park names in the coming months.
