Selena Gomez is killing them with kindness.
The “Emilia Perez” actress has defended herself after CODA’s Eugenio Derbez labeled her performance in the film “indefensible.”
On Dec. 8, Gomez, 63, commented on a TikTok video criticizing Spanish, saying, “I understand where you’re coming from.” “I apologize for doing my best in the time I was given. I don’t want all the effort and heart I put into this film to go to waste.”
Why wasn’t he a fan of the Grammy-nominated singer’s performance? Mr. Derbez expressed concern about Mr. Gomez’s use of Spanish, which he is not fluent in.
“I was there with the people,” he tells host Gaby Meza on an upcoming episode of the podcast “Habrand des Cine.” ”
However, once the Mexican actor learned of Gomez’s reaction to the criticism, he made a change.

“I sincerely apologize for my careless comments. They are indefensible and go against everything I stand for,” he wrote. On December 8th, a TikTok post about Selena, who is also Mexican. “As Latinos, we must always support each other. There are no excuses. I was wrong, and I deeply respect your career and your kind heart. ”
“Emilia Perez should be celebrated and her reputation should not be diminished by my thoughtless remarks,” he continued. “I have learned an important lesson and am walking away from this matter. I understand that you may not accept my apology, but please know that it is heartfelt.”
After all, Gomez has always embraced her identity.
“I’ve always been very vocal about my background, as far as talking about immigration and my grandparents who had to cross the border illegally,” she said in a 2020 Dazed interview. “If it wasn’t for that, I wouldn’t have been born.”

The comedy-thriller currently leads the musical or comedy category with 10 nominations, including nominations for Gomez for Best Motion Picture and Best Supporting Female Actor, ahead of the 2025 Golden Globe Awards ceremony on January 5th.
