I-Vt. Senator Bernie Sanders will force a vote on banning the sale of arms to Israel.
Independent Sanders, who routinely caucuses with Senate Democrats, has announced that he will vote for a pair of resolutions to block the sale of $675 million of hundreds of billions of bombs and guidance kits for bombs and halt the sale of “tens of thousands” of automatic rifles to Israel.
“U.S. taxpayers have spent hundreds of billions of dollars supporting the racist extremist Netanyahu government,” Sanders said in a statement. “As ample enough.”

It’s not the first time Sanders has pushed to block arms sales and military aid to the Jewish state. Since December 2023, just months after the conflict between Israel and Hamas began, lawmakers have been introduced or forced five times in a resolution, each aimed at blocking military aid and billions of dollars in munitions and weapons.
His latest attempt comes after the photos revealed hungry children in Gaza.

“It has been a long time since Congress uses the leverage we have (tens of millions of weapons and military aid) to demand that Israel end these atrocities,” he said.
The expected vote late Thursday comes as Senate Democrats have undergone a tonal change in Israel since the events of October 7, 2023, when Hamas launched a brutal attack on Israeli soil.
Sanders’ final attempt earlier this year attempted to block more than $8 billion in arms sales, with 15 Senate Democrats voting for it, and all Senate Republicans voted against it. The resolution is likely to fail, as in his previous attempts, but it is expected that more Democrats will vote with him.

Earlier this week, 40 Senate Democrats wrote to Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Middle East Steve Witkov to the US Special Envoy, urging the administration to promote “a massive expansion of humanitarian assistance and services throughout the Gaza Strip.”
Senate Republicans have largely condemned the conditions reported in Gaza, Hamas, with some seeking more food aid to the Gaza Strip. President Donald Trump vowed that there will be more food centres controlled by Israel.

Senate majority leader John Tune, Rs.D. said he shared Trump’s views and had a desire to “meet that needs and reduce that pain.”
“But you had to understand too. When terrorist groups like Hamas are operating in the area, they intercept and deflect the many food aid there,” he said. “That’s the challenge that Israelis have. That’s the challenge we have around the world.”
