Senate Democrats warn that Mike Waltz will face a very difficult time during confirmation hearings for the role of UN ambassador.
“It would be a brutal and brutal hearing. The essence of the fact that he joined this signal chain means he is not qualified for the job,” Sen. Tammy Duckworth of Illinois told CBS News “Face the Nation.”
“Mike Waltz is doing what we call — he’s failing,” added Duckworth, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. “He has failed his job and is promoted to become an ambassador. That’s not what our country needs at the UN.”
“I think it’s going to be a brutal confirmation hearing,” Sen. Mark Warner of Virginia also told CNN’s “The State of the Union.” “I think he’ll ask difficult questions not just from Democrats but from Republicans.”

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital on Monday.
Waltz is facing scrutiny after Atlantic Magazine exposed a signal group chat that his team had set up to discuss the strike against Houthis in March.
President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he is scheduled to appoint a new national security adviser in about six months, and that reporters’ Waltz did not resign, but instead was taken away from his upgraded position as the UN’s administration ambassador.
Trump will tap on his new national security advisor in six months. Waltz movements are called “upgrades.”

Democrats appear hungry to use Waltz’s nomination as a forum to air complaints about other Trump administration foreign policy leaders, particularly defense secretary Pete Hegses.

The exact timeline for potential confirmation slips in the Senate is unknown, but the first hurdle the Waltz must clear is that it is a confirmation vote for the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. It is uncertain when the Senate Foreign Relations Committee will schedule a waltz nomination hearing and subsequent votes, but the committee said his appointment was a “priority.”
