I-Vt. Senator Bernie Sanders said President Donald Trump has approved handling of fentanyl and border security.
“So I think we’re cracking down on fentanyl so that our borders are stronger,” Sanders told ABC’s Jonathan Carl in a segment of the tape in advance that aired Sunday’s “this week.”
“Look, no one thinks illegal immigration is appropriate,” Sanders said. “And while we happen to think that comprehensive immigration reform is necessary, we don’t think it’s appropriate for people to meet illegally across borders. So we need to work on comprehensive immigration reform right now.”
Sanders’ stance appears to be a break from the 2020 presidential election platform, where he supports “breaking” US immigration and customs enforcement and the US customs border guard, suspending deportation as audits are pending. He also supported stopping the border wall, ending the policy of “staying in Mexico,” decriminalizing illegal immigrants by making it a civil offence, and ending previous restrictions on federal funds in sanctuary cities.

Sanders told ABC that if Trump deports “20 million people in this undocumented country,” he would “destroy the entire country.”
“Because I got the news for you. Trump’s billionaire friends are not going to choose crops in California that feed us,” Sanders said. “They don’t intend to work in meat-drinking homes. That’s what undocumented people do. So we need a variety of programs, a guest worker program, but most need comprehensive immigration reform.”

The senator responded, “We should do it much better and there’s no argument.”
