The statistics have encouraged rare bipartisan actions in Congress to expand federal support and address the growing crisis, as more than 4 million young people and families face homelessness.

Angela is also D-Md. , and Katie Britt (R-Ala.) also presents the Homeless Children & Youth Act on Wednesday, the former’s major bipartisan law during her brief tenure since being sworn in January.

Authorities must ensure that children experiencing homelessness can get the support they need to leave the situation permanently, Brooks also told Fox News Digital.

“This law begins to close barriers to service for many young families and is a true action against one of my guiding principles. “Love your neighbors like you are.” No one deserves to experience homelessness. “HCYA is a critical step in ending homelessness in our community and breaking the generational cycle,” she said.

Britt added that “children should not be prevented from receiving the vital support they need,” and that the bill “rationalizes” the definition of homelessness in all federal agencies.

The bill seeks to better define homelessness in a federal context to provide more complete resources. That current code shows that in some areas of government, people counting young people with people other than their parents and living in motel rooms as experiencing homelessness, but other federal programs think they are.

It would also improve the view and understanding of the issue, as he said young people are often overlooked as blocks of people who may face homelessness.

By standardizing the definition of young people homelessness and opening up more federal resources to those affected, the bill will help communities break the cycle, supporters said.

Youth homelessness is a problem in the Washington, D.C. area. In the area, Brooks also led Collar County for several years, for several years, before overthrowing Larry Hogan’s former government in his current seat.

During her time as Prince George’s county enforcer, the county established the Youth Action Committee. It aims to directly address the crisis from a youth perspective.

In 2024, Brooks also granted an additional $2 million grant to the Housing and Urban Development Agency to support Prince George’s organizations fighting youth homelessness.

One homeless support group praised the law in nearby Frederick County, north of the country’s capital.

“Programs like ours can serve these young people as soon as they experience homelessness,” Melissa Muntz, of Frederick’s Student Homelessness Initiative Partnership, told Fox News Digital.

“By providing immediate support and reducing the duration of homelessness for young people, there is a greater chance that young people will lead to schools,” Muntz said.

“We know that young people who have not graduated from high school are very likely to experience homelessness as adults.

At least 15 homeless advocacy groups have also approved the law, according to the sponsors.
