MSNBC host Pastor Al Sharpton called on Andrew Cuomo to drop out of the Mayoral race in New York City, urging the former governor to consider what the greatest benefits of New York City residents are.
“I think Andrew Cuomo should see what’s best for the city and have him do a one-on-one race,” Sharpton told MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Wednesday.

Sharpton added that he had previously contacted Cuomo Camp to encourage the former governor to drop out. Cuomo said he removed his name from the New York mayoral vote this fall.

“He can support one or the other and have them fight for what’s best for New York,” Sharpton said.
In response to questions about Sharpton’s comments, a Cuomo campaign spokesman told Fox News Digital in an email that “everyone has the right to their own political opinion.”

“I understand that President Trump supports Eric Adams and don’t believe socialism is the answer,” the spokesman said. “Most New Yorkers are not Trumpter, and most are not socialists. The majority are in the middle. We will continue to assess the current situation for the best interests of the people of New York City.”

Also on Wednesday, President Donald Trump vowed to “save New York City” from mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani. Mamdani faces criticism from conservatives and some Democrats, and even Democrats over his socialist policies have refused to condemn rhetoric related to terrorism.

“As the US president, I have no intention of letting this communist madman destroy New York,” Trump wrote about the true society. “Don’t worry, I hold all the levers and have all the cards. I’ll save New York City and make it ‘hot’ and ‘great’ again, like I did in America! ”

Amid a victory over Cuomo and nine other candidates, Mamdani officially declared New York City’s Democratic primary winner as mayoral winner.

The New York City Election Commission published official results for three rounds of ranked optional votes from last week’s mayoral primary, with Mamdani winning a majority in the third round and 56% of the votes.
Eric Adams and Zohran Mamdani did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
