Sheriff said he was rendezvoused in connection with a fatal side explosion, according to NBC Los Angeles

The rena bullet recovered in Santa Monica is linked to a fatal explosion that killed three deputies, Los Angeles Sheriff Robert Luna said.

At a press conference Friday, Luna and the ATF said they were actively searching for missing explosive devices from the East LA training facility. The device is one of two that was recovered from an underground storage unit after being reported to Santa Monica police by the tenant.

“Based on ATF expertise and the combination of physical evidence and debris recovered at the scene, they determined that one of the two hand rena bullets that exploded on Friday was taken into custody and that one of the hand rena bullets has not been explained at this time,” Luna said. “From a wealth of attention, an extensive search has been conducted across the boundaries of the training facility.”

The ATF believes that three investigators, members of the bomb squad, were inspecting the hand-rena bullet when one of the hand-rena bullets exploded. The hand rena bullet was believed to be inert when he recovered.

It is still unclear why that really exploded and what lawmakers were doing at the time.

After a thorough search of facilities, vehicles and surrounding areas, authorities determined that the device was missing.

According to Luna, the ATF, which is leading the investigation into the explosion, has now fully controlled the investigation into where the second hand-ren bullet is located.

ATF special agent Kenny Cooper described the device as a “military style hand-ren bullet.” Sheriff Luna warned him not to pick up the device if it was found and instead called authorities.

Detectives Joshua Kelly Ecklund, Victor Remus and William Osborne, a member of the Agency’s Arson and Explosion Unit, passed away last week at the Department Training Center. They were supporting local police after the discovery of a hand-rena bullet in a Santa Monica apartment on July 17th.

Law enforcement veterans served with the department for a total of 74 years.

The investigation, which led to a fatal explosion, included searching for evidence in Marina del Rey storage units. Several law enforcement members were on the 4200 block of the marina on Tuesday.

Using the robot, authorities spent hours searching the property. The drone and K9 team were also on the scene.

It was not immediately clear whether evidence related to the investigation was found at the custody centre.

On Monday, law enforcement served as a search warrant in the 13,900 block of Marquesas Way in Marina del Rey, searching for a boat docked at the marina.

The explosion occurred a week ago in a parking lot at the Biscales Regional Training Center, in the 1000 block of Northeast Avenue, southwest of the 10 and 710 expressway exchanges. It is suspected that weapons collected a day ago were collected from the storage bins in a Santa Monica apartment building that exploded during transport.

The sheriff said the arson and explosives team will receive detailed training and will respond to more than 1,000 calls a year.
