The owners of Simi Valley jewelry and candy shops are trying to pick up the pieces after a burglar breaks into the area to steal cash and precious gems on Sunday night.
The robber gets caught up in surveillance video and sneaks into Dr. Conkie’s candy and coffee on Cochrane Street, reaching a security camera and spraying it to block views.
After the criminal steals everything from the candy store safe, the person drills a hole in the wall and breaks through the door business next to it, the five-star gem.
“I opened the safe. It worked perfectly from the outside. And when I opened it, it was empty and there was a hole leading to the business of my neighbors,” said Jonathan Youssef, owner of the five-star gem.
Youssef said the customers were customers as many of the stolen gems, ranging from gold and white gold to diamonds, were waiting for repair or modification.
“They were things that could not be replaced as heirloom works or from their deceased families,” said Yousef, who took over the family business from his father, who had built a small business for over 25 years.
Compared to jewelry stores, candy stores may not have lost much money, but fear, frustration and anger were shared by everyone in the community.
“We’ve been here for 43 years and that’s such a violation,” Dr. said Cathy Mackel, one of the owners of Candy & Coffee in Conkey. For us here, all our nearby business owners are moms and pop shops. These are people’s livelihoods. They are everything they have. ”
What helped small business owners have hope for humanity is the handrails for their neighbors as some people bring money to donate to jewelry stores.
“Please help me help my neighbors,” McEll said. “Anyone who sees anything should contact the police.”
