Shocking footage crashed into a stopped sedan on 15 San Bernardino County highways Monday night, killing a coronavirus man and sending pieces flying down the road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred just after 9pm on July 14th on the southbound side of the highway near Hodge Road in the Burstow area.
CHP officials said the victim, a 56-year-old man from COVID, was driving a 2023 Honda Civic. A while later, a 47-year-old man from Washington, Pennsylvania, drove a 2023 Volvo semi truck in a 53-foot trailer, unable to see the stopped vehicle and was hit from behind.
The graphic video provided by Stringer Service Onscene.tv shows the moment of a crash, with the force of the crash crushing the Honda trunk into the rear seat, pushing both vehicles across the highway into the middle.
An unconfirmed report by Onscenetv says that a talented Samaritan is trying to stop along with the highway and use spotlights to light up the disabled Honda to warn oncoming vehicles. Despite these efforts, the semi-truck did not stop in time. Stringer Service did not mention how close a good Samaritan is to the incident, but the CHP did not mention any other injuries.
The CHP, San Bernardino County Fire, Desert Ambulance emergency crew responded within minutes and attempted CPR on the sedan driver as seen in the footage. He was declared dead at the scene. The semi-truck driver was not injured and remained on the scene and worked fully with investigators.
A CHP official said it remains unclear whether alcohol or drugs are the factors behind the conflict.
“On behalf of the California Highway Patrol, we would like to express our deepest condolences to the affected families,” CHP Barstow Regional Commander Colonel Erich Meeker said in a statement. “As this investigation progresses, we want to learn more about this crash and how future events and tragic loss of life can be avoided.
