The new online petition proposes that the Danish country buys California for $1 trillion.
The man behind the push, Xavier Dutoit, launched a “Denmark” website, creating a pitch for Scandinavia to buy the golden one. Towing with hundreds of thousands of signatories.
“Have you ever looked at the map and thought, “You know what Denmark needs? More sunlight, palm trees, roller skating. Well, we’re going to make that dream a reality. There’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Buy California from Donald Trump!” Dutoit wrote on the petition website.
He argued that there are many positives to potential purchases, including avocado toast, tech domination and Disneyland. (“Mickey Mouse in the Viking Helmet? Yes, please,” he wrote.
Trump wrote that he might be convinced he would sell the state because he is “not California’s biggest fan,” and noted the history of feuds with its leaders and critical comments about the nation.
Trump has also repeatedly argued that the United States should gain control of Greenland, the Danish territory between the Arctic Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean.
Dutoit acknowledges that the proposal is merely a gag. Denmark can’t crowdfund money to buy California and can’t convince the US to sell it.
When it comes to numbers, the website isn’t even serious. If the proposed price tag for “New Denmark” for $1 trillion has not yet been clear.
Dutoit acknowledged that, in fact, the petition has received thousands of signatures, but far fewer than the nearly 250,000 people listed on the website.
“Believe me, it’s a great deal. The best deal. Dutoit signs up faster than saying ‘Rødgrød Med Fløde’,” Dutoit emailed him, referring to Danish pudding that is difficult to pronounce. I am writing.
Despite his petition, Dutoit is not even Danish. He is half French and half Switzerland, and he says he is entitled to become the new Danish “Chief Pastry Officer.”
“Fortunately, my Danish friend seemed not to be offended and some of them joined the team,” he said.
