The teaser trailer for “Shrek 5” sparked a strong response on social media. Many fans are unhappy with the character redesign. The trailer features older versions of Shrek, Fiona, daughters Felicia, Donkey and Pinocchio.
On X, many fans compare the designs of old characters with new ones, saying Dreamworks animation, “Scratching the characters” behind the film.

Some fans have put pressure on DreamWorks animations to restore the characters to their original designs, and are facing early “Sonic the Hedgehog” concept designs, comparing the situation to social media backlash Paramount.

Still, some social media users defended the redesign, calling it “inevitable” given the 2001 release of the original “Shrek” film and the advances in animation technology.

In “Shrek 5,” Mike Myers returns as Shrek, Cameron Diaz as Fiona, and Eddie Murphy as donkey. Zendaya joins the star-studded cast as the voice of Felicia, Shrek and Fiona’s daughters.
The highly anticipated film is scheduled to appear in theaters at Christmas 2026.
