Four people, described by police as members of a sophisticated theft team, were arrested this week and charged in connection with the robbery of a $3 million jewellery store in Simi Valley.
The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office said on Friday they each face four felony conspiracy numbers related to four felony conspiracy numbers each, each of which was facing four felony conspiracy numbers when police began when thieves broke into nearby business Dr. Conkey’s candy and coffee, and then cut open the wall.
District Attorney Eric Nasalenko said the charges also led to a strengthening of the newly enacted ruling as part of Prop. 36, which he has exceeded $3 million, as the stolen property is worth it.
The people charged, Sergio Andres Mechuca, Manuel David Ibarra, Heidi Nicolto Torzillo and Camilo Antonio Aguilar Lala, first appeared in court on Thursday, each being held in place of $100,000 bail.
All four are Chilean citizens, and Steve Shorts, the Chief of Simi Valley Police, also said he was not charged, although he was suspected of failing to break into a nearby pawn shop just before the jewel robbery.
Shorts said they refused to provide details, although there may be additional cases related to the group.
Detectives who had already investigated similar crimes at a nearby pawn shop were working to connect the two robbers. Following the jewellery store break-in, detectives monitored four men and obtained a search warrant for the De Soto Avenue property. Authorities said they discovered a large number of stolen gems, cash and designer watches.
Authorities say many of the items were stolen during the Simi Valley five-star gem and Dr. Conkie’s robbery. Several of the suspects were found to be wearing or transporting stolen items, police said.
Police also found a firearm stolen in an unrelated Los Angeles robbery.
