According to Nashville police, country music singer Conner Smith, best known for his Tiktok song “I Hate Alabama,” has been identified as the driver of a pickup truck reportedly fatally attacked a pedestrian over the weekend.
A June 9 media release from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) said Smith, 24, was behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Silvarado the evening before hitting the 77-year-old, identified as Dorothyed Bins.
The incident occurred around 7:30pm on June 8th as Dobbins was crossing the boundaries of a marked road in downtown Nashville. Preliminary findings show that Smith was heading north at the time and failed to create road rights. Dobbins, who lived nearby, was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center after the accident. It was there that she was declared dead.
Today.com contacted Smith’s representative for comment but has not yet received a response.
According to the release of MNPD, Smith showed no signs of a disability. No claims have been filed and the investigation is still underway.
According to Billboard, the country singer, who described him as “from Nashville,” became a prominent figure in 2021 with “I Hate Alabama.” Soon after that, he released his debut album, “Dod Dod Dod Go To Tual.”
In 2022 and 2024, Smith performed live today as part of the City Music series.
The singer is currently on tour and plans to perform several live performances nationwide this summer, including in Fort Myers, Florida on June 14th.
Smith’s latest Instagram post shared on the same day of the June 8 incident features a photo of him performing on stage. The singer marked Nashville as a post geolocation and wrote “they are home differently” for the caption.
