Six Flags Magic Mountain’s Superman Coaster reportedly is permanently closed

Six Flags Magic Mountain’s “Superman: Escape from Crypton” was once one of the fastest and highest roller coasters in the world, making its final flight.

The ride, which was closed for maintenance last September, will be closed forever, park officials told the Orange County Register.

The theme park did not immediately respond to Times’ request for comment on Friday.

According to the theme park website, the roller coaster, named “Superman: The Escape,” which debuted in 1997, experienced 6.5 seconds of weightlessness when it debuted in 1997, running upwards with a record of speed and height upwards at a top speed of 100 mph.

In 2011, the Coaster was reorganized as “Superman: Escape from Crypton” and redesigned to set back a horrifyingly exhilarating trip.

“You’re about to shoot 0 to 100 mph on a flat 7 seconds – on the other hand,” the Six Flags website explained the vehicle. “This record-breaking speed and acceleration has never been achieved in a thrill ride.

Magic Mountain President Jeff Harris told the OC register that although he originally hoped the park would resume riding, procuring replacement parts for the aging roller coaster proved to be prohibitive.

“Like other roller coasters within the theme park industry, these coasters have a life cycle,” Harris told the Register. “It’s just reached a point where we need to make wise decisions about where we really reinvest funds that improve the guest experience. It doesn’t really make much sense from a business perspective to get that back to Superman.”

“Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom” Superman Ride and Hoist Park visitors 40-storey return to Earth with a 40-storey visitor is currently undergoing maintenance and is scheduled to resume in April.

The end of Superman’s line received an overflow of sadness from the adrenaline addict.

“To say they have about parents and children is, “You never know that it will be the last time you can hold your child in your arms,” one user wrote on Reddit. “The same goes for Superman as these vehicles have gone into renovations. I loved Superman… I never knew I last rode it.”

Extreme Ride had a strong fan base, but also experienced technical challenges and several closure periods. Some of these were associated with linear synchronous motor launch systems that allowed the ride to reach 100 mph.

Currently, the fastest roller coaster in the world is Formula Rossa from Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi, which opened in 2010, with a top speed of 149.1 mph.

Six Flags Magic Mountain is now a 19 roller coaster, but Valencia’s theme park has a new bike coaster ride, scheduled to open in 2026.
