Casual fans might assume that Kobe Bryant didn’t cross paths with Luka Donsic. After all, Bryant retired three years before Donsic debuted at the age of 19 in 2018.
However, when the Dallas Mavericks visited the Lakers on December 29, 2019 at the beginning of Donsic’s second season, Bryant wore a dark blue beanie and an orange jacket, but with his daughter Gianna, he was wearing a coat. I was sitting on the side.
At one point, Donsic seemed unaware of the fact that he was standing directly in front of Bryant while trying to throw an inbound pass. Donsic replied, “Who am I talking about Slovenians?” They laughed, sharing another handshake and embrace. Donsic posed for a photo with Gianna, then took another photo with Bryant. A month later, Bryant and Gianna were among nine people who died in a helicopter crash on January 26, 2020 on the hill above Calabasas.
Doncic Now is a member of the Lakers after a deal that redefines the surprising meaning. And to everyone’s surprise, the mural that captured the 2019 Bryant and Don Sic meeting has already been completed.
The mural in front of the Carrera Cafe on Melrose Avenue, between Harper Avenue and North Sweetser Avenue in Viver Grove, is the latest in the views of my favorite social media walls across from the famous Paul Smith pink wall.
Kobe’s Beanie is Lakers Gold, and his Jacket Lakers are purple in the mural, but the dense whiskers and mustaches that he played sports that night are accurately painted. There was also a grin at how Bryant and Donsic wore them in a short meeting.
The mural was painted by Altyn Gozkuchkiyan. The first mural of Armenian artist Bryant was painted a week after his death, on the side of an exotic car rental company along Ventura Boulevard. Bryant and Gianna (13 at the time) look at the sky with smiles.
More than 100 murals commemorating the lives of Bryant and his daughter will be featured in upcoming books written by Bryant’s wife and Gianna’s mother Vanessa Bryant, and longtime Bryant and NBA photographer Andrew Bernstein was photographed by. One of Bryant and Donsic is a valuable addition.
