Investigators have yet to find and arrest a driver involved in the fatal Koreatown hit and run, which killed a 22-year-old skateboarder.
The fatal March 27 crash occurred around 6am near the intersection of Sixth Street and Catalina Street, as the victim, now identified as Oscar Lopez, was working on a skateboard.
Surveillance footage shot by a nearby business shows the driver of a gray four-door sedan moving west down Catalina Street when he hit and killed a 22-year-old boy as he approached Sixth Avenue.
However, grainy footage of the crash did not provide investigators with additional information about the person behind the wheels of the car.
Police scrutinised the scene for evidence, closing Sixth Avenue between Belendoor Street and Kenmore Avenue for more than two hours, but a white canopy was seen covering the 22-year-old’s ruins, with one of his shoes loosening from the impact and broken parts of his skateboard.

Officials said the impact of the crash was so severe that it also left traces of local vehicle parts.

“You have to be careful about everyone. There are a lot of people, especially in the city,” Gilbert Mendes told KTLA’s Jennifer McGraw, adding that the skateboarding community is realizing that drivers are just continuing. “I think that’s scary. You have to stop.”
The 22-year-old family is in ruins. In a homage to Lopez, his sister, Gisele Lopez, wrote in part of GofundMe:
“He was someone who always prioritized others above him, even when he needed the most support. He never left your side. It’s painful to see his parents’ worst nightmare come to life. We lost our siblings, friends and son.
Skateboarder himself Mendes said he was well aware of the dangers of riding in the city of Los Angeles.
“It could have been me. It happened to me last week almost every day,” he said.
It is unclear whether authorities were able to find footage of the crash from other surrounding businesses that provided a clearer view of the incident, but aside from the vehicle description, no other information about the driver has been made public.
