The frontman of Funk Music’s Pioneer Sly Stone, Group Sly and Family Stone have passed away. He was 82 years old.
“After a long battle with COPD [chronic obstructive pulmonary disease] And Sly dies peacefully surrounded by his three children, his close friends and his extended family. His family said in a statement that diversity has earned.
His family has called him “a monumental figure, a groundbreaking innovator, a true pioneer who redefined the landscape of pop, funk and rock music. His iconic songs leave an indelible mark in the world, and his influence remains undeniable.”

According to People Magazine, his family has revealed that just before his death, he completed the script for his life story, and is “a project he wants to share with the world following the memoirs released in 2024.”
Born in Denton, Texas, Sylvester Stewart grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area town of Valleyho. As a child, he played gospel music in churches with his younger brother Freddie and sisters Rose and Loretta.
The musical genius had mastered guitar, bass, drums and keyboards by the time he was only 11 years old.

In the mid-60s he worked as a DJ for the Seoul radio station KSOL-AM in San Francisco.
In 1967 he formed the band Three and Family Stone with Freddie and Rose along with Cynthia Robinson, Greg Erico, Jerry Martini and Larry Graham. They were the first major American rock group to be mixed gender and racially integrated. He is best known for his hits such as “Dance to the Music,” “Everyday People,” “Thank You (Fallettimme is Mouse Elf Ajin)” and “Family Afair.” They broke up in the mid-70s and cited Stone’s massive drug use.
The band is touted as a pioneer of the early ’70s funk era, the late ’60s, and combines soul, rock, psychedelia and the gospel.
In 1993 they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In the 2000s, the band took part in various compliments.
“We extend our deep gratitude to the pouring of love and prayer during this difficult time. We wish for peace and harmony to all who were moved by Sly’s life and his iconic music. We are grateful from the bottom of our hearts for your unwavering support,” a statement from his family concluded.
Stone was survived by three children, Sylvester Jr., Sylviet and Novena Carmel.
