The warming trend that hits Southern California on Tuesday has brought it to some unfavorable air quality.
The South Coast Air Quality Control District said in a news release that experts predicted an “expensive ozone (SMOG) event for several days” would affect most of Southern California from Thursday through Thursday.
South Coast AQMD shared this map on the expected air quality issues on July 7, 2025.
The air quality index is expected to reach levels of unhealthy for sensitive groups in the following areas:
Coachella Valley inland areas including Lake Elsinore, Corona, Hemet and Pasadea
The air quality index is expected to reach unhealthy levels for everyone in the following areas:
Santa Clarita Valley San Gabriel Valley San Bernardino Valley San Bernardino Mountains
Air quality usually worsens after sunrise, peaks in the middle of the afternoon and then decreases, with early morning hours and overnight overnight with less smog.
During those daytime hours, AQMD suggests:
Gasoline-powered lawn and garden equipment to limit outdoor activities during less air quality saves electricity until the evening and sets the air conditioner for higher temperature delay trips to gas stations and household chemicals use until the evening
If smog levels are expected to remain high last Thursday, another update from AQMD is expected.
