“Saturday Night Live” decided to find humor in the situation.
In the show’s first cold open since former President Donald Trump’s second election, the cast joined to share a clear message for the next four years of American presidentship.
Cast members Bowen Yang, Kenan Thompson, Ego Nwodim and Heidi Gardner first took to the stage in a more serious tone, saying Trump took office “with no guardrails.”
“That’s why we at SNL are here with you all the way,” Thompson joked.
“We never wavered in our support for you,” Yang said, joining “even when others doubted you.”
Cast members Sarah Sherman and Marcello Hernandez then joined them on stage, with Sherman saying, “Everyone on this stage believed in you.”
“Everyone on this stage voted for you,” Hernandez added.
“Weekend Update” co-anchor Colin Jost also joined the rest of the cast on stage to share a message for the president-elect.
“And Mr. Trump, Your Excellency, we know you sometimes say controversial things, but in reality you’re just telling the truth,” Jost said. . “And I hate the way Michael Che in the downstream media tries to report it to make you feel stupid.
Che is Jost’s co-anchor on “Weekend Update.”
Later, the cast members said in a message to the president-elect that they should not be on the “enemies list” and that they would “harshly condemn” those who voted for Vice President Kamala Harris on “SNL.” said.
“Like our three nasty new cast members,” Sherman said, showing the sketch show’s new cast members, Ashley Padilla, Emil Wakim and Jane Wickline, on camera.
“Their home addresses can be found online, hurray Trump,” Thompson said.
“I voted for you 50 times in Pennsylvania,” Gardner added.
The final show of support for America’s new president featured performer James Austin Johnson, who impersonates Trump every week on the show, sporting a different look in terms of his impressively muscular physique. He performed an imitation of himself.
“Yes, it’s me, Hot Jack Trump,” Johnson told Trump. “They finally got the body right. But from now on, I’m going to paint Trump in a very unflattering way, because frankly he’s my hero. And he’s a great president, and ultimately He will become king.”
The cold open also featured comedian and “SNL” alum Dana Carvey, who revealed his impression of Elon Musk.
“Seriously, I’m running the country now,” Carvey said, echoing Musk. “America will be one of my rockets. Yeah, rockets are super cool and super fun. But there’s a small chance we’ll explode and kill everyone.”
Comedian Bill Barr hosted the episode and said he was “so excited” that the presidential election is finally over.
“Four years ago, everyone knew who they were voting for,” Barr said in his opening monologue. “And they dragged you on for a year and a half and kept throwing this issue at you. Who was there to sit there and watch a debate that hasn’t been settled yet?”
“Two of the most polar opposites ever. It’s like, ‘Oh, what do you want the orange bigot to say? What about the sniveling real estate agent?'” Barr added, saying: Undecided voters.
