Snowboarder, who has lost two days in the snowy mountain of Lightwood, recalls how he survived the extreme cold.
What began as a day trip in Malachi Garcia has turned into a fight against elements because he rely on his survival skills to continue to live for about 48 hours he spent outdoors at cold temperature. He said he was separated from the group during the snowboard and noticed something wrong when the terrain changed.
“I said in my head,” I understand, I’m behind the hill. I’m not going to climb, “he recalls.
Thanks to the outdoor hobby, he was able to put his survival skills to refrain from succumbing to the cold.
“I’m just moving, so my body keeps getting hot while I’m moving,” he said. “It was snowing on gloves again. I take off them, blow my hand and warm up.”
Garcia also added that he had been hydrated by drinking water from the stream he met. On the morning of the snow, on Tuesday morning, it helped find a search and rescue crew.
“He had no injuries or complaints,” said a sheriff’s vice Rob Springer. “Perhaps he got down to about 2,500 feet, about 4.5 miles from the place he went out of the bounce.”
Following his experience, Garcia said he was grateful to live, recover, and reunite with his beloved people.
“I am grateful that he is alive and at home,” said Marachi’s mother, Gina Garcia. “It was an emotional roller coaster.”
