A Moore Park man has been arrested after his son took a bullet to school and shared it with a friend, authorities said.
Ricardo Nunez was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of child danger and is carrying an unregistered weapon. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that the search for the man’s home discovered many guns and ammunition.
On Tuesday, Deputy K’lynn Jackson, School Resource Officer for Moore Park Unified School District, responded to reports that Campus Canyon College Preparation Academy, a K-8 public school, owned a single ammunition that a student had shown to a friend.
Nunes was immediately contacted by a detective, according to the release. They found two unregistered assault rifles, handguns, ammunition and a large-capacity magazine at Nunez residences and identified him as the owner, officials said.
Nunes was arrested and charged with criminal firearm storage, possession of assault weapons, extermination of a gun and other firearm-related charges.
In the release, the Moore Park Police Department advised gun owners to adhere to controlled gun storage and safety standards.
“These incidents don’t happen very often,” Jackson told The Times. “However, reports of weapons calls to schools are taken very seriously. School safety and teacher safety are our number one priority.”
