Amid the rise in reports from the Los Angeles Immigration Bureau, the organization has organised information workshops and events, telling residents what to expect during the ice age interaction and giving details.
The need for such resources is clear, advocates say. At a recent city council meeting, Council Chairman Markey Harris Dawson, who represents parts of Southern LA, said when US immigration and customs enforcement agents were in his district, “Neighbors were on the streets to help their neighbors. People who didn’t know their rights, their neighbors were telling them their rights.”
The Los Angeles County organization is currently running a “know your rights” workshop aimed at providing the same kind of support and information in a more formal way.

Upcoming workshops and events
March 10: Equity & Justice Alliance presents a free legal workshop “Know Your Rights.” The presentation includes panel discussions and Q&A for immigration, criminal defense, family law, and civil rights lawyers. The event will be held at East Los Angeles College Ingalls Auditorium from 5:30pm to 8pm. Registration is required. You can sign up here.

March 11: Loyola Immigration Justice Clinic hosts two virtual “Know Your Rights” webinars for teachers and students from the Los Angeles Regional Adult Education Consortium. The first session is from 10:30am to 11am, and the second is from 6:30pm to 7pm. March 11: The Immigration Defender Law Center is holding a virtual presentation on a person’s constitutional rights and how to protect themselves and others in the event of an immigration emergency. The virtual presentation will be held via Zoom from 4pm to 5pm. Register can be viewed here.
March 13: The Legal Services Team at the Los Angeles LGBT Center knows your rights. The event begins at 6pm and for more information or registration, please email legalservices@lalgbtcenter.org or call (323) 993-7670. The clinic will be held in both English and Spanish.
March 18: Loyola Immigration Justice Clinic co-hosts a “Know Your Rights” presentation from noon to 1pm in the Robinson Courtroom in Los Angeles. The court is located at 919 Albany Avenue on the first floor of the Doddick Family Trial Advocacy Centre.

The Humanitarian Immigration Rights (Chirla) Coalition is a nonprofit advocate for immigration rights in Los Angeles County and across the country. We offer weekly in-person and virtual workshops. For more information, visit the organization’s website or call (213) 353-1333.

The East Los Angeles Occupation Center has pre-designed immigration rights and resources webinars on its website from officials from the Los Angeles Unified School District. Recorded in English and Spanish.
Representatives are public-private partnerships that provide legal representation to immigrants in detention or in the community, and public-private partnerships that provide those facing deportation or seeking relief. The organization will hold immigration workshops at the South Whittier Community Resource Center at 10750 Laurel Ave. from noon to 2pm on the last Wednesday of each month.
This workshop covers topics such as avoiding fraud, understanding your rights in immigration courts, determining family-based immigration and citizenship eligibility.
The LA County Immigration Office has an online calendar of “Know Your Rights” and legal support workshops. The office website also serves as a hub for information and immigration resources.
Catholic charities in Los Angeles conduct regular workshops, as well as information sessions on child arrival deferred actions or citizenship and applications related to the DACA program. Your organization has an online calendar that lists monthly events.
The office of Los Angeles City Councilman Eunisses Hernandez is working with Mijente, Chirla, the Central American Resource Center and other advocacy groups to promote regular training and provide free red resource cards at local field offices. The office partnered with Mijente to deploy community defense organizers to train local leaders and build a rapid response network, especially in the council districts.

You can call your local rapid response network to report ice activity and enforcement actions. Participating organizations can document immigration enforcement and send trained individuals to help those who are being stopped or questioned by agents.
