Some have been monitoring payments with a bit of scrutiny in April amid rising rage over social security benefits access, staff cuts and recent proposed changes to the website halt.
The Social Security Agency (SSA) said Tuesday it was investigating the root cause of the online outage that affected the “my Social Security” portal, where recipients access profits.
In particular, individuals who received supplemental security income, including disabled elderly people and low-income adults and children, reported receiving notifications saying they were “not receiving benefits.” The agency said the notification was incorrect.
According to an internal 2023 report, around 7.4 million elderly people, adults and children receive SSI benefits. It is unknown how many people received the incorrect message on the portal.

Regular Social Security Retirement Benefit Schedules for 2025 and 2026 can be found online for those who want to closely monitor their payments or need a good way to build a budget this month.
SSA STAGGERS retirement benefits are paid by the date of birth, so the breakdowns are as follows:
Wednesday, April 9th: Wednesday, April 16th to date of birth: Wednesday, April 23rd to Wednesday, April 20th: Date of birth from 21st to 31st
Beneficiaries of the supplemental security revenue were scheduled to receive payments on Tuesday, April 1st. Two SSI payments will be made on the following month, Thursday, May 1st and Friday, May 30th.

The SSA recommends that beneficiaries who do not receive payments on time must first contact the bank or financial institution to see if there is a delay. If not, SSA recommends calling 1-800-772-1213 or contacting your local Social Security Agency.
SSA backtrack for some ID requirements
In March, the SSA announced plans to require millions of recipients and applicants to authenticate their identity individually or online, rather than phone calls, before making requests such as benefits claims or changes to direct deposit information.
The Trump administration has argued that the measure is necessary to combat fraud.
News of change came as Elon Musk’s government efficiency lists 47 offices in 18 states that are scheduled to close.
The SSA has since denied permanently closing the office, partially supporting the proposed ID requirements.

“We listened to our customers, councils, supporters and more, and we are updating our policies to provide better customer service to the country’s most vulnerable groups,” said Lee Dudek, Social Security Chairman of SSA.
On Wednesday, the Social Security Administration said those applying for supplementary security income that cannot use Social Security Disability Insurance, Medicare or the online portal of agents can complete the claims in person by phone in full instead. Other SSA applicants must verify their identity in the field office.
The changes will apply to all beneficiaries starting April 14th, not dates announced prior to March 31st.
